Christ Church C of E Primary

Our Church

Christ Church Shooters Hill is a lively church that has a broad congregation of all ages. It is located right next door to our School about half-way up Shooters Hill, set back from the road in Oxleas Woods. Our services are based on Common Worship Order One (Modern Language).

Foundation Governors

We are still looking for Foundation Governors for Christ Church Primary. If you have a passion for education and would like to support and strengthen the Christian character of the school, please, do ask to have a chat with Mtr Ariadne. Thank you!

 Assistant Wardens

We are trying to put a system in place with 4 assistant wardens who will help carry some of the load of the Church Warden. We have found 2 assistant wardens already: Lesley Archard for Building & Grounds and Heather Bower for Services Admin. We are looking for 2 more: for Giving and for Admin.

If you would like to know more about either of these roles, please, speak to Sue Peach. Thank you.

International Food Festival

A big thank you to everyone who contributed to and supported our first social event in more than 2 years, yesterday. Thank you all for the lovely food and cakes and all the activities for children.

There’ll be news soon about our next social event.

Choir & Organ

It is well over a decade since Christ Church had its own organist. From this month, we will have a new organist, who will be playing for us once a month, on the third Sunday. Certainly during July and August and hopefully longer term as well. His name is Hugh and he will be rehearsing the choir as well as playing the organ. The first choir rehearsal will be on Friday evening. If you’d like to join the choir, please have a word with Marion Lee or Heather Bower.

All Age Services

Our All Age Services will be taking a break for the Summer holidays. There will be a service today, but then there will be a little gap until 11th September 2022. In the meantime, you are very welcome to join us at 10am for our Eucharist.

Dear all,

Hope you are enjoying the warm weather.

This will be a short message, because I have only just come home (7.49pm) from our Food Festival (and from setting up the church afterwards).

International Food Festival

Many, many thanks to all those who helped and contributed to our International Food Festival and to all who supported the Festival by coming to it and by eating the wonderful food.

Unfortunately, COVID meant that we didn't have all of the stalls we'd hoped to have, but we still had Indian; Syrian; Thai and Ghanaian food as well as sandwiches and a barbecue. We also had a huge cake stall with cakes and biscuits and desserts from various countries.

The performance by the Royal Arsenal School of Music Choir was a special highlight. It was also wonderful to see so many children enjoying themselves in the playground and to see so many school families, too.

We are hoping to have another event in September or October, possibly a Nearly New Sale of baby and children's clothes.

If you'd like to be part of Social Committee, do speak to Heather Bower or Daniela Weber.

There are a few desserts left from yesterday and we will be selling those after church tomorrow.

Sunday Services

Tomorrow, there will be two services: Eucharist at 10am and All Age at 11.30am. Roots sheets and notices are attached. We will live-stream both services and record the Eucharist.

COVID cases are very much on the increase and some people are really quite ill with it. Please, help to protect each other by wearing face coverings in church, by using hand saniters and by testing if you think you may have the virus. Thank you for your help!

The All Age Services will be taking a break for the Summer holidays. Tomorrow's service is the last one before the holidays. The next All Age Service will be on 11th September.

There will be tea and coffee after the Eucharist tomorrow, because of a special celebration. There is tea / coffee / milk available in the hall. Is there anyone who might be able and willing to do tea and coffee after the service? Thank you!

Housing for Women

We are continuing to collect for our local refuges who need our help at the moment. Please, see notice sheet attached for more information.

Many thanks for your support.

God bless,

Mtr Ariadne
